Last feeder sale of the season brings good prices at the Klamath Livestock Auction

Buyers paid good prices Tuesday during the last feeder sale of the season at Klamath Livestock Auction.

Lots of calves weighing 500 to 700 pounds took the stage for bidding. Auction owner Pat Goodell called the per-pound rates “a little stronger” than past sales.

That was good news for sellers, but not for potential buyers such as Ryan and Laurinda Kliewer of Klamath Falls. They came to the sale hoping to pick up about 10 feeders for the winter, but hadn’t purchased anything two hours into the auction.

“High prices,” explained Laurinda, who tended to daughters Grace, 3, and Alanna, 7 months, during the sale.

They sat at the show ring with lots of other farmers and ranchers, listening to auctioneer Jake Cheechov of Eugene try to coax bids higher and higher with his machine-gun cadence.
